Capital Campaign Construction Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you ripping up the lap pool?
As Routt Countyβs only public swimming pool, itβs imperative that the reconstruction of the lap pool occurs to ensure that there is a public swimming pool for generations to come. Old Town Hot Springs pools support the Steamboat Swim Team, swimming lessons, master swimming, aquatic personal training, aquatic group exercise, and recreation fun! The lap pool hasnβt been updated since the 1980βs and the footprint hasnβt changed since the 1960βs.
Why are you doing this project now?
This project has been in the works for a decade, as the OTHS Board of Directors watched the Routt County community grow quickly over the years. The existing pool space cannot accommodate the diverse needs of our current community. In addition, all pools have a shelf life, and while the Maintenance Team has done an amazing job at extending the life of the pool, we have reached the end; the concrete is rotting, certain areas are sinking, and the mechanical systems cannot be replaced because they are so old that a replacement doesnβt exist. Pushing this project out by even another year puts us at risk for the lap pool to be inoperable. The time is now.
What will be open during construction?
As typical to our winter season, our hot pool, heart spring, spa 1, spa 3, and the slide pool will remain open. Our water slides will be open over the winter season.
When will construction be finished?
Our new pools will open in the summer of 2024, pending no major weather setbacks occur during construction. Check out our construction page for the most up-to-date information on the project.
I'm an avid lap swimmer, how can I train while the pools are closed?
We acknowledge the impact the pool closure will have on our community’s devoted lap swimmers and encourage those folks to connect with Fitness Director Lisa Palmiatto, who is ready to help develop personalized plans to maintain your strength and mobility during the construction process.
How will this affect my membership?
Construction of the lap pool should not affect most members. If you only use the lap pool and donβt want to continue using your membership, please reach out to Guest Services Director Sue Lottes to discuss your options.
Memberships will not be discounted during construction.Β
What will the project look like when done?
When the project is completed, we will have a 25-yard, eight-lane lap pool and diving board, a shallow-depth community pool, hot soaking pool, and a new and improved zero-depth kiddie splash area. These pools will be used for swimming, programming, and recreation.
What will the depth and size be of the lap pool?
The lap pool will be a USA swimming regulation, 25-yard, four-to-ten-foot depth, eight-lane pool with gutters and a diving board.
