When will the construction of the lap pool area be finished?

The reconstruction of our lap pool area will be completed in the summer of 2025.

Why was the construction timeline pushed from summer 2024 completion to summer 2025 completion?

The delay in our construction completion is due to two construction challenges beyond our control.

The first challenge we encountered was the necessity for unanticipated demo and excavation work to ensure the long-term viability of the new pool structures.

The second challenge presented itself in the new year when our pool builder took part in a corporate merger and restructuring. The restructuring of the organization inevitably led to a pause in our pool construction. The new pool builders have adjusted the timeline to ensure the work is done to their corporate standards, which has added significant time to our plan.

Why don’t you switch pool contractors?

The pool contractor merger was between two of the best companies in the nation, and we don’t want to sacrifice quality. Even if we were to decide to look elsewhere, the time it takes to bid on a new project would lead to an even longer timeline. We are confident in our pool contractors and know that the end product will be best-in-class.

What will summer of 2024 look like operationally?

Outside, the hot pools will remain open and we will be opening the lawn and upper deck up for lounging. The water slides will run every day through the summer season.

Inside, it’s business as usual. The fitness center is open with unlimited exercise classes for members, along with the climbing wall, childcare, the Market, and our massage service.

How will this impact my membership?

If you have had a membership during 2023/2024 winter, then it’s not much different in terms of amenities. Take a look at our member amenities list here.

There will be less space outside for lounging in the summer, so plan to come in the morning or during the weekdays if you want a quieter experience.

Why are you not offering discounts with the construction delay?

Our organization is structured so that each member and guest get access to all of our amenities with the purchase of a membership or day pass. We don’t have an a la carte model, so we don’t discount based on the amenities that are used. For example, we don’t provide a discount if you don’t use the climbing wall.

Why did you need to do construction on the lap pool area?

This project has been in the works for a decade, as the OTHS Board of Directors watched the Routt County community grow quickly over the years. The existing pool space could not accommodate the diverse needs of our community. In addition, all pools have a shelf life, and while the Maintenance Team has done an amazing job at extending the life of the pool, we reached the end; the concrete was rotting, certain areas were sinking, and the mechanical systems could not be replaced because they are so old that a replacement doesn’t exist. The lap pool hasn’t been updated since the 1980s and the footprint hasn’t changed since the 1960s. Pushing this project out by even another year put us at risk for the lap pool to be inoperable. As Routt County’s only public swimming pool, it’s imperative that the reconstruction of the lap pool occurred to ensure that there is a public swimming pool for generations to come.

I'm an avid lap swimmer, how can I train while the pool is closed?

We acknowledge the impact the pool closure will have on our community’s devoted lap swimmers and encourage those folks to connect with Fitness Director Lisa Palmiatto, who is ready to help develop personalized plans to maintain your strength and mobility during the construction process.

What will the project look like when done?

When the project is completed, we will have a 25-yard, eight-lane lap pool and diving board, a shallow-depth community pool, hot soaking pool, and a new and improved zero-depth kiddie splash area. These pools will be used for swimming, programming, and recreation.

What will the depth and size be of the lap pool?

The lap pool will be a USA swimming regulation, 25-yard, four-to-ten-foot depth, eight-lane pool with gutters and a diving board.
