Aquatics Manager

Job Title: Aquatics Manager

Position Overview:  As the only public swimming facility in Routt County, Old Town Hot Spring’s mission is to provide aquatic health and wellness opportunities and education for our members, guests, and the Routt County community. The Aquatics Manager is primarily responsible for the safety of our pools, daily supervision of aquatic staff, and water safety/swimming education for our community.  

Essential Job Functions:

Managing Aquatics Teams

  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and knowledge of the aquatics department to successfully recruit new hires, support their certification process, onboard, and then coach on skills as necessary.
  • Teaches lifeguard and CPR classes to new hires, as well as monthly in-service training to existing teammates.
  • Lifeguard as needed to maintain a full workload, as well as provide lifeguard coverage for call outs.
  • Identifies the developmental needs of staff and provides coaching and mentoring to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Manage scheduling and consistently review staffing plan for gaps and efficiency.
  • Prepares the Aquatics payroll bi-weekly.

Drives Water Safety/Swimming Education

  • Manages day-to day swim lesson programming, ensuring the quality, standards, and the expectations of customers are met.
  • Teaches swim lessons as needed to maintain a full workload, as well as provide swim lesson instruction coverage for call outs.
  • Works directly with community partnerships to schedule group visits.
  • Handles complaints, settles disputes, and resolves grievances and conflicts, using empathy and problem-solving skills.

Ensuring Exceptional Safety and Standards

  • Highly visible to staff and customers to ensure safety and job expectations are met.
  • Purchasing first aid supplies and misc. aquatics needs.
  • Leads interdepartmental training on the OTHS Emergency Action Plan.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintains a professional image and manner consistent with the OTHS mission and goals.
  • Assist with special events, parties, fundraisers as needed.

Position Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum two years’ experience as a lifeguard.
  • Proven experience in recruiting, hiring, training, developing and supervising a team.
  • Expertise in conducting training for: lifeguards, swim instructors, First Aid, CPR, and Administering Emergency Oxygen.
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 70 lbs.

Technical Skills and Certifications

  • Certification Requirements:
    • Immediately upon hire:
      • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification. Open to other lifeguarding certifications for the right candidate.
    • Within four months of hire:
      • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification (LGI)
      • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
    • Strong and effective computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft
    • Proven ability to learn and manage the use of a health club management software system.

Communication Skills

  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to maintain composure during high stress events and conversations.
  • The ability to create a positive team-oriented environment focused on safety, and the ability to inspire a high-level of performance and alignment with the organizational culture is required.

Job Summary:
The Lifeguard will ensure swimmers’ safety in the pool area and administer first aid or lifesaving techniques when needed.
· Ensures that the rules and regulations of the swimming pool are followed to maintain a safe swimming environment.
· Administers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and uses automated external defibrillator (AED) when needed.
· Contacts emergency medical personnel when a serious injury occurs.
· Performs occasional pool cleaning and maintenance tasks such as emptying trash cans.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Extensive knowledge of and ability to administer or use first aid, CPR, AED, and other lifesaving techniques.
· Excellent observational skills.
· Ability to enforce pool regulations and rules.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience:
· Must be at least 15 years old.
· Valid American Red Cross lifeguarding certification required. Other lifeguarding certifications may be accepted. Uncertified 
  applicants may be eligible for reimbursement of certification cost (certification not available at Old Town Hot Springs).
Physical Requirements:
· Must be a skilled swimmer and able to pull weight through the water.
· Must be physically able to rescue someone drowning or injured in the water.
· Prolonged periods of being outdoors.

Maintenance Technician

The Facilities Technician is essential in ensuring that our members and guests have an exceptional experience here at Old Town Hot Springs.  This position will be responsible for the cleaning, maintenance, and repair activities of all areas of the facility, as well as making sure that we maintain a safe and clean environment for everyone.  All activities performed will be in support of the Mission Statement and Goals of Old Town Hot Springs.

Swim Instructor

Job Title: Swim Instructor

Position Overview: The Swim Instructor, following American Red Cross guidelines, provides individual and/or group lesson instruction to students 6 months old – adults.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervise students during class time and be responsible for their safety.
  • Provide students will the opportunity to learn swimming skills based upon ability level and American Red Cross standards.
  • Provide specific and constructive feedback to students verbally and via end of session report cards to enhance learning and understanding.
