Ski History and An Eagle Scouts Creativity

As a local non-profit dedicated to supporting the health and wellness of the Steamboat Springs community through aquatics and fitness, Old Town Hot Springs (OTHS) is thrilled to announce that its front entry is the official home of the Steamboat Springs Chairlift Swing, created by Eagle Scout, Parker Moline (Troop 194), for the Tread of Pioneers Museum and OTHS.

Moline worked with the Tread of Pioneers Museum to create a one-of-a-kind swing from two retired Steamboat Ski & Resort ski lift chairs. The seat is from the former Headwall lift (1969 to 2007). The hangers and grips are from the Four Points lift (1968 to 1992).

“I wanted my Eagle Scout Project to have a historical meaning and this project allowed me to combine family history, my love for snowboarding, and my hobbies,” says Moline.

While there were several great locations for the Chairlift Swing throughout town, OTHS was given the honor of receiving the beautiful blue swing so that locals and visitors alike can reminisce about Steamboat Springs ski history.

“We are thrilled that an important piece of Steamboat ski history has been preserved and worked into this creative piece of functional art”, says Candice Bannister, Executive Director of Tread of Pioneers Museum. “We are grateful to Parker for all of his hard work and congratulate him on a successful Eagle Scout project.”

As for Moline, this step back into history has taught him some great life skills that he will be able to carry into the future. “I learned how to adapt to changes, but most importantly I learned how to follow through with my commitments”, says Moline. “In the process, I learned about welding, and I’ve already has requests to build more chairs.”

Old Town Hot Springs will be hosting a “socially-distanced” ribbon cutting ceremony on 6/19 at 10:00am to celebrate Molines accomplishments and the strong partnership between two non-profits in Steamboat.
